Charles Badenach is a financial and planner with the boutique fee for service financial advisory business Main Street Financial Solutions based in Tasmania, Australia.
He moved into financial services in 2001 (after practising as a lawyer for many years). He built a successful business but, when the GFC hit in 2007, it struck him like a train, as Badenach says, “I was doing the same as everyone else, I had no point of difference.”

Charles Badenach’s first lesson on the importance of planning for the future came from watching his grandfather. “He was very much from the old school” Badenachsays.”He started working at a law firm at 14, and finished work at 79, on a Friday. I was about 17 at the time. He packed his desk up, drove to hospital to check himself in, and he passed away on the Tuesday. He had worked for 65 years and didn’t have a retirement. He had been diagnosed with cancer, and didn’t tell anyone. It suddenly hit me that if I didn’t take an active interest in my own financial affairs that could happen to me……
